The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team defeated the Alcorn State Lady Braves 69-60 at the William J. Nicks Building on the campus of Prairie View A&M University.
The Lady Panthers will be the #7 seed in the SWAC Tournament and will face play at archrival #2 Texas Southern Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the H&PE Arena, with the live radio broadcast on pvpanthers.com. Tickets are $15 for the contest.Â

Alexus Parker led all scorers with 22 points on 9-16 shooting from the floor, senior
Tori Carter added 19 points and four rebounds and senior
Jeronia Allen notched 18 points for the Purple and Gold on 50 percent shooting.
The opening quarter of play featured the Lady Panthers playing tenacious defense, as the Lady Braves managed to shoot 17.6 percent from the field, but PVAMU was not able to capitalize on Alcorn State's poor shooting. The Lady Panthers only managed to convert on 33 percent of their shot attempts in the opening quarter.  At the end of the first quarter the PVAMU held a 10-8 lead.
The scoring would pick up considerably as the Lady Braves and the Lady Panthers traded baskets in the opening minutes of the second quarter. A Carter layup gave the Purple and Gold a 23-21 advantage with 3:58 remaining in the opening half. Prairie View began to outscore Alcorn State 7-5 in the final minutes of the half, punctuated by another Carter layup with time running out in the quarter. As halftime commenced, the Lady Panthers were in possession of a 30-28 lead.
PVAMU had a strong start to the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Braves 11-5 in the opening six minutes. The scoring spurt was punctuated by Parker, as she nailed a pair of free throws to give the Lady Panthers possession of a 41-33 lead. PVAMU was still unable to put the Lady braves away, as Tia Sanders layup brought the Braves within four with less than two-minutes left in the third quarter. Prairie View A&M would finish the quarter just as strong as they began, as
Dominique Newman nailed a midrange jump shot as time expired. As the fourth quarter was set to begin the Purple and Gold led 51-46.
The Lady Panthers would begin its final quarter on a 13-4 run. The scoring run was keyed by baskets from Allen, Parker, Newman, and Carter. With 4:24 remaining in the contest Prairie View was in firm control leading 64-50. The Lady Braves tried to mount a comeback, cutting the lead to nine, but would get any closer.
