MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M University softball team fell short in its comeback, losing to Alabama State 10-6 in an elimination game of the 2017 SWAC Tournament.

Alabama State opened the game with a run, scoring again in the third, before PVAMU scored two runs in the top half of the fourth. Â
Briana Knowles hit a single up the middle, before Destinee Williams reached base on a fielding error. With two runners on the base paths,  D. Williams scored the first run on a sac fly. After some offensive runner substitutions, Brooke Dibler scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-2.Â

The Lady Hornets scored two more runs in their half of the fourth before the Lady Panthers struck in the top of the fifth. Kiara Ross reached base on a fielder's choice and two batters later, D. Williams singled to right field scoring Ross. Shelby Williams scored on a sac fly after reaching base on a fielding error. A single by Laurisa Hernandez brought Knowles across home plate, as she reached base on a fielder's choice in the earlier in the inning. Alyssa Garcia singled up the middle to score D. Williams to make it a one run deficit at 7-6 but could get no closer.Â
