BEAUMONT, Texas - The Prairie View A&M volleyball team battled with Lamar Tuesday evening, but was unable to claim its first win of the season as the Cardinals took the 3-0 decision (25-7, 25-21, and 25-10).

The second set was a close affair early on with both teams, knotting the game seven times, the last at 9-9. The Cardinals, however put together a run to close out the set 25-21. Senior Taylor Goudeau paced the Lady Panthers offense with five kills, while junior Mykaeli Franklin dished out four assists. Sommer Gonzales added four digs.

This will wrap up their non-conference play for the month of September as they will open up league play this weekend at the Southwestern Athletic Round Up hosted on the campus of Texas Southern.Â

PVAMU will square off with east rival Alabama A&M Friday, at 12:30 p.m. and Mississippi Valley at 3 p.m. They will continue play on Saturday with matches against defending SWAC Champions Alabama State at 10 a.m. That game will be followed by Jackson St. at 7 p.m. The round up will close out on Sunday with a final match against Alcorn St. at 12:30.
