BEAUMONT, Texas – Although the Lamar game was postponed on Saturday, the Prairie View A&M men's tennis team was able to compete Sunday against Oral Roberts, dropping the dual match 4-1 at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
In singles action at the No. 5 position, newcomer Kevin Ugarteche claimed the point for the Panthers with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Andrew Guymon.
Oral Roberts won the doubles points to begin play taking a 1-0 lead. The duo of Cesar Reyna and Zach Suico for PVAMU completed their match first at the No. 3 position falling 6-1 to Alvaro Santamaria and Eddy Leardini. In a battle at the No. 1 position, the duo of Ulrick Boyogueno and Anirudh Yadan of Prairie View A&M closed out their match with a 6-4 loss to Kenneth Boykin and Jan Pehnec.
Boyogueno fell to Boykin in singles play at the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-1, while Yadav dropped his match at the No. 3 position 6-3, 7-5 to close out the match.
The Panthers will return to action when they host a doubleheader with the women's team on Wednesday, Jan. 24 to Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The women's first set will begin at 3 p.m., and the men's time is still to be determined.
