BOX SCORE HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In the concluding match for the Prairie View A&M volleyball team at the SWAC East roundup on Sunday morning, the Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Braves of Alcorn State 3-2 (27-25, 25-13, 22-25, 21-25, 15-9).
"We finally won a match this weekend," an excited PVAMU volleyball coach
TaCho Tyler said. "The first two sets we dominated, and then got complacent in the next two, but we were able to come back and win the fifth set with more poise."
The Lady Panthers recorded six team blocks, three of them solo. Both Kaelyn Yoeman and
Melissa Bento had three blocks apiece to lead the Lady Panthers.
Tamaira Armstrong again paced the team defensively with a game high of 16 digs. Outside hitter
Jaylan Thomas posted 20 kills for a second time this season, while
Victoria Pearson recorded 14 and
Latrice Brown added 10.
Erica Jimenez and
Joycelyn Nunez quarterbacked an offense that hit .247 as Jimenez dished out a career high of 26 assists, while Nunez tallied 11.
The Lady Panthers will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when they host St. Thomas for Dig Pink Night. The first set will begin a 6:30 p.m.
