The Prairie View A&M University football team lost to Alcorn 27-13 Saturday in the 2018 homecoming game at Panther Stadium.
The teams traded scores in the first quarter. The Panthers got on the board first as
Zach Elder converted a 22-yard field goal to complete a 10-play, 61-yard drive for a 3-0 lead with just over eight minutes to play in the period.
Following an Alcorn touchdown drive, the Panthers answered as
Bernard Goodwater returned the ensuing kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown to put Prairie View A&M ahead 10-7 with 5:22 to play in the period.
Alcorn posted the next three scores to take a 20-10 lead late in the first half.
In the fourth quarter, the Panthers cut the deficit to 20-13 on a 31-yard field goal by Elder with 5:46 remaining but could no closer.
"I thought there were some things that we didn't do and didn't execute well on offense," said PVAMU head coach
Eric Dooley. "I thought there were some drives we could have completed that would have given us points. Defensively, we've got to be able to get off the field on third down and be able to shut down the run."
Prairie View A&M returns to action next Saturday in a 2 p.m. game at Jackson State.
