STILLWATER, Okla. - The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team will play their first road contest of the season at Oklahoma State in a 7 p.m. tip off Thursday at the Gallagher-IBA Arena.
The Lady Panthers (1-0) are coming off a season-opening 117-32 win over Jarvis Christian in which five PVAMU players scored in double-digits. The offensive charge was led by junior
Dominique Newman with 21 points, while seniors
Shala Dobbins posted 16 and Le'Neique Nealey had 14 points in the game. In her debut as a Lady Panther, senior
Artavia Ford scored 12 points and sophomore
Jhyrah Cobb added 10.
"I thought we came out with a lot of energy," said PVAMU women's head basketball coach
Sandy Pugh. "I think we had a lot of butterflies, and that was obvious with layups and other things we missed. The speed was there and the intensity was there. We just have to do a better job of finishing and executing."
Thursday's game will be one of PV's best nonconference tests of the season. The Cowgirls (2-0), a 2018 NCAA Tournament participant, opened their season with a 62-60 win over Arkansas State, followed by a 76-51 win over UC Riverside.
