BOX SCORE ITTA BENA, Miss.  – The Prairie View A&M volleyball team closes out the 2018 season with a first round loss to Alabama State University Friday night in the SWAC Tournament at the W.R Harrison Arena.

"We came out in the first set with a dominant performance, but the next three sets we fell back into an offensively stagnant team," said head PVAMU volleyball coach TaCho Tyler.  "Can't win mates that way.  It's time to recruit and get better in the off season."

The Lady Panthers led for most of the first set, until both teams tied at the 16-16 mark. The teams continued trading points until PVAMU went on a late 5-0 run and took a 23-18 lead. PVAMU went onto win the first set 25-19 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

PV took an early 3-1 lead in the second set, but trailed until they came upon their second lead of the set at 15-14. The Lady Hornets eventually took a 17-16 lead, but the Lady Panthers were able to keep a steady pace until ASU went on a late 3-0 run. PVAMU fell 25-17 in set two as the match was tied at 1-1.

Prairie View A&M trailed throughout the third set, and weren't able to cut into ASU's deficit falling 25-11 with the Lady Hornets taking a 2-1 lead in the match.

PVAMU struggled offensively in the fourth set, and dropped the set 25-11, losing the match 3-1.

Junior setter Erica Jimenez had six kills, 12 assists and four digs, while junior right side hitter CeTara Carter and sophomore outside hitter Tamaira Armstrong also had six kills apiece. Senior SWAC Defensive Specialist of the Year Christen Augustine collected 12 digs, with Armstrong following behind with 11 digs.
