PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M men's tennis team played host to the University of Texas San Antonio dropping both matches 4-0 Wednesday, at the PVAMU Tennis Courts.
The Panthers played UTSA very close in the early match up. At the No. 3 position the duo of
Rodrigo Yoshikata and Zach Suico came just short of the win falling 7-6 to the Roadrunners Leon Hein and Patrick Poestinger in doubles action.
At both the No. 1 and No 2 positions in doubles the Panthers fell 6-4. In singles the Roadrunners earned the remaining points posting wins over
Ulrick Boyogueno 6-3, 6-0,
Taqel Lewis 6-2, 6-1 and
Kevin Ugarteche 6-1, 6-1. Boyogueno lost his set to UTSA's Kai Breitbach, Lewis fell to Javier Gonzalez, while Ugarteche dropped his match to Joao Ceolin.
In the evening match the Panthers and UTSA only played singles, because of the lateness of the day. At the No. 2 position
Anirudh Yadav fell in close sets 6-4, 6-4 to the Roadrunners Juri Reckow, while Suico dropped his match at the No. 3 position 6-3, 6-1 to Gonzalez.
In a hard fought match up to UTSA's Ceolin, Panther Yoshikata fell at the No. 4 position 6-3, 6-2, and in the final match of the evening
Cesar Reyna dropped his sets to Igor Cantanhede 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 5 position.
Prairie View A&M will play Texas A&M Corpus Christi for doubleheader action in Corpus Christi, Texas, Thursday, Feb. 15. The first match is set to begin at noon and the team will return to play at 3 p.m.
