BATON ROUGE, La. – After weather delay on Friday the Prairie View A&M Tennis teams picked up wins over Alcorn State, before dropping matches to Alabama State on Saturday in the SWAC Roundup.
The women defeated Alcorn in the early match 4-3, while falling to Alabama State 4-2. Themen's team picked up their first season win over Alcorn 4-2, and dropping their evening match to Alabama State 4-1.
In the women's match against Alcorn, the Lady Panthers picked up the doubles point at the No. 2 position with the duo team of
Shaddae Findley and
Tatiana Ruhl by the score of 6-1, while
Stacy Lackey and
Timara Maxwell finished at the No. 3 position with a 6-3 win.
Neharika Rama captured the second point for the Lady Panthers with a 7-6, 6-3 win.
Constanza Aranguiz won her sets 6-1, 6-3, while Maxwell finished her match with the scores of 6-1, 6-1.
In their match against Alabama State, there were only single sets played. PV's Aranguiz won her match 6-3, 6-4, while Maxwell finished her sets with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
In the men's opening match against the Braves,
Xavier Lawrence won his matches by the scores of 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 2 positions, before
Taqel Lewis won his sets 6-1, 6-2. Zach Suico at the No. 5 position was the next Panther to pick up a point for the Panthers by the scores of 6-2, 6-1. In the final set Kevin Ugacteche won by the scores of 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 6 position.
In the later match between Alabama State and the Panthers, only singles matches were played and the Panthers won their lone point at the No. 2 position with Lawrence winning by the scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Due to the weather forecast, other roundup matches will be rescheduled. Both teams will return to action on March 3 against Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas for a 3 p.m. first set.
