MCALLEN, Texas -  Prairie View A&M opened the first of the tri-matches hosted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, falling to Oral Roberts 4-2 at the McAllen Country Club. 
PVAMU dropped the doubles matches before sophomore Xavier Lawrence posted a win at the No. 2 for the Panthers.  Lawrence rallied after dropping set one 3-6, to walk away with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Oral Roberts'Jan Pehnec.
The Panthers' Rodrigo Yoshikata outlasted Scott Hjelm after going three sets, with Yoshikata winning the first set 6-4 and dropping the second set by the score of 7-5.  He was able to capture the point for PVAMU with a 6-0 win.
 Prairie View will continue play in McAllen, Texas when they face Southern Utah Friday in a 9 a.m. first set.
