BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M women's and men's tennis teams had two players from each team to receive all-SWAC honors on Thursday.
Constanza Aranguiz (5-2, Jr., Santiago, Chile) earned all-SWAC honors after going undefeated in league play. She went 6-0 in conference play and is 8-8 overall this year in singles.
Timara Maxwell (5-2, Jr., Chicago, Illinois) also went undefeated in league play. She posted a perfect 5-0 league mark in singles and a 7-5 overall record.
On the men's side, 2017 SWAC Freshman of the Year
Xavier Lawrence earned a place on the all-SWAC team for the second consecutive year. The 6-2 sophomore from St. James, Barbados led PVAMU with an undefeated league record (6-0) and posting a 9-7 overall singles record.
Kevin Ugarteche, a freshman from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, was 9-10 overall in singles play in his PVAMU debut, including a 4-1 record in the conference.
The Prairie View A&M tennis teams will head to New Orleans, La. to compete in the 2018 SWAC Championships, which begin Friday. Both Panthers teams are the #2 seed and have a bye until the Saturday semifinals at 9 a.m., and 1 p.m. The women will play the winner of No. 3 Southern/#5 Alcorn State match. The men will play the winner of the No.3 Arkansas-Pine Bluff/No. 5 Jackson State game.
The championships are set for Sunday at 9 a.m., and 1 p.m. at the City Park Tennis Center.
