PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University softball team split a double header Saturday afternoon on senior day for the Lady Panthers. PVAMU won game one in a a come from behind 9-8 thriller and dropping game two 4-2.
Four senior players were honored today after the Lady Panthers regular season finale game. Keon Hunter,
Kelsey Coronado,
Kylar Ward-Flowers, and
Amanda Ford were the seniors presented.
Game one
PVAMU 9, TSU 8
Texas Southern opened the first two innings posting five runs, keeping PVAMU off the scoreboard through four innings.
The Lady Panthers offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs on four hits.
Shelby Williams singled to open the inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Alexis Freeman.
Gabrielle Fonseca tripled to left field, allowing Williams to score the first run for Prairie View A&M on the afternoon.
Laurisa Hernandez homered bringing both Freeman and Fonseca across home plate for the Lady Panthers, to get within two as the fourth inning concluded.
TSU added one run on one hit in the top of the sixth. PVAMU responded with four runs on four hits in their half of the inning. Fonseca opened the inning with a single to centerfield. Fonseca advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch in the subsequent at bat.
Destinee Williams hit a two run homer to empty the bases for the Lady Panthers. Ward-Flowers was hit by a pitch to begin the second half of the scoring frenzy for PV. In the following at bat
Alyssa Garcia the second two run homer of the frame to advance the score 7-6.
The Lady Tigers scored a pair of runs on one hit in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Panthers refused to go quietly scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh. D. Williams walked and Hernandez reached base on an error to put two runners in scoring position for the Purple and Gold. Ward-Flowers got to first base on a fielder's choice.

Game two
TSU 4, PV 2
Texas Southern led 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Panthers tried to mount a comeback, scoring two runs on four hits. Coronado singled to right field, before Ward-Flowers singled to center field and pinch runner
Brianna Grays advanced to second. Two at bats later, Ford singled up the middle, allowing Grays to score. Hunter walked to load the bases, and S. Williams singled, which brought pinch runner
Samantha Martinez home from third base.
The Lady Panthers had a chance to rally in the final inning for the second time in the day. Unfortunately. PVAMU went three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh, allowing TSU to earn the win.
The Lady Panther softball team will return to the diamond for action during the SWAC Softball Tournament from May 9th-12th, in Montgomery, Alabama at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
