PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M volleyball team battled with Lamar Tuesday evening, but was unable to claim its first win of the season as the Cardinals took the 3-0 decision.
"We played a lot better tonight collectively than we had been," head PVAMU volleyball coach
TaCho Tyler said. "We just need to play better offensively. We did look better on the defensive side as far as blocking. We just need to be more prepared as we go into conference play."
In the opening set, PVAMU dropped the 25-23 decision as junior SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Jaylan Thomas tallied three kills to lead the Lady Panthers.
The second set was just as close as a couple of players had two kills apiece. Freshman Jaelyn Phillips Oakes, sophomore
Victoria Pearson and junior Cetara Carter all chipped in on the attack as PVAMU fell 25-20.
Set three was a close early, with Lamar owning a 10-6 lead. The Cardinals however put together a 15-10 run to close out the set at 25-17, and the match.
Thomas paced the Lady Panthers offense with five kills, while SWAC Defensive Player of the Week senior Christine Augustine added 10 digs. Freshman
Joycelyn Nunez added a season best of 13 assists for Prairie View.
PVAMU will return to play during the SWAC Roundup Sept. 21-23 in Baton Rouge, La.
