BATON ROUGE, La. – The Prairie View A&M University volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday on day two of the SWAC West Roundup held at Southern.
The Lady Panthers defeated Mississippi Valley State 3-1 to open the day, before losing to Alabama A&M 3-0 Saturday evening.
PVAMU won 25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 25-19 over the Devilettes.
Latrice Brown had a game-high 12 kills,
Jaylan Thomas had 11 kills and 11 digs. Jocelyn Nunez had 21 assists, and
Erica Jimenez added 16 assists and eight digs.
Christen Augustine had 17 digs in the win.
"We took care of business against Valley," said PVAMU head coach Tacho Tyler. "I would have liked to have won in straight sets, but a win is a win."
In the nightcap, Prairie View A&M fell 25-10, 25-17, 25-13).
Kaelyn Yeoman had six kills, Brown and
Victoria Pearson each had five kills.
Alyssa Cataldo had nine assists, Jimenez had eight assists and seven digs for PVAMU. Augustine had 11 digs in the match.
"We got outplayed by Alabama A&M in every facet of the game. If we're looking to compete and win a championship, they are the team to beat. So we must learn to be disciplined and to play at a high level."
The Lady Panthers conclude the roundup Sunday at 3 p.m. vs. Jackson State.
