The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team fell to Grambling State 64-63 on Monday in the Baby Dome.
The teams tied twice in the opening minutes of the first quarter before going on a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead. A made jumper from senior center
Artavia Ford put the team up 16-13 late in the period with 2:37 left to go. PVAMU went into the second quarter down 17-16.
Junior forward
Mariah Campbell scored the Lady Panther's first points of the second quarter at the 8:48 mark, and cut the team's deficit down to one at 19-18. PVAMU trailed up until a 30-30 tie courtesy of a made foul shot from senior guard
Shala Dobbins with 2:23 left in the period.
PVAMU went into the half trailing 37-35. Dobbins led the team with 11 points.
The team went on a 4-0 run to tie the game 39-39, then again at 40-40 early on in the period. A 6-0 run led by junior guard
Dominique Newman then gave PVAMU a 46-42 lead. A made three pointer from senior guard Jordan Penniman gave the Lady Panthers their largest lead of the game at 53-48 heading into the fourth quarter.
PVAMU held a 63-62 lead with 20 seconds remaining in the game after a quick layup from sophomore forward
Jhyrah Cobb. However, the team ultimately fell 64-63 in the closing seconds of the game.
Dobbins led the team with 12 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Ford followed behind with 11 points and two rebounds. Senior forward
La'Neique Nealey also added 10 points, four rebounds, and five assists.
The Lady Panthers will face Mississippi Valley on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a 3 p.m. tip in Itta Bena, Miss.
