Women's Basketball Will Look to End SWAC Opening Weekend 2-0 at Alcorn

LORMAN, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team will look to end the SWAC opening weekend with a 2-0 record when they face the Alcorn State Braves on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

The Panthers will seek their first 2-0 start in conference play since 2009-10 after rallying to a 55-54 win at Southern on Saturday. Senior Shala Dobbins led the team with a season-high of 23 points and eight rebounds.  Senior Artavia Ford followed behind with 15 points, three rebounds and two blocks, including making the game-winning shot with seven seconds remaining.
 
Both Dobbins (11.5) and Ford (11.3), leads PVAMU in scoring respectively.  Junior Ke'Asia Williams continues to lead the Panthers in rebounding averaging 6.9 ppg.
 
As the Panthers move on to their next competition, they will be facing another tough team in Alcorn State as they defeated Texas Southern 53-52 in their match-up on Saturday.  De'Asia Brown led Alcorn with 15 points, while Jada Hargrove added nine points and five steals.
 
Brown leads the Braves in scoring averaging 10 ppg., while Diamond Hall leads the team on the boards averaging 7.23 rpg. 
 
Last season the two teams split with the Panthers falling to Alcorn at the Nicks Building 73-72, while finishing up the regular season with a 96-76 win over the Braves at their place.  Dobbins poured in 28 points in the game, while Dominique Newman added 21 points to give PVAMU the win.
