PRAIRIE VIEW – On the heels of one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, Prairie View A&M volleyball now turns its attention to the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament.
The Lady Panthers (15-21, 14-4 SWAC) earned the No. 2 overall seed and will begin their tournament slate versus No. 7 seed Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in R.W. Harrison HPER Complex on the campus of Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena, Miss.
Prairie View A&M garnered the No. 2 seed after top seed Alabama A&M (15-3 SWAC) topped Alabama State in its final regular season match.

Victoria Pearson has posted a stellar season, as she leads the the Lady Panthers with 375 kills (2.88 per set) on a .303 attack percentage while dishing out 28 service aces and figuring in on 89 digs and 59 blocks. In all, Pearson has accounted for 439.5 total points.

Tamaira Armstrong (342 kills on a .218 hit percentage, 285 digs) are among the SWAC's top 10 in kills and points. Senior right side hitter
CeTara Carter (263 kills) leads the team with 69 blocks. Setters
Erica Jimenez (555 assists; 4.55 per set) and
Jakarta Hope (543 assists; 4.6 per set) have combined to former arguably the most productive setting duo in the conference, and freshman libero
Skyla Childs has been strong in her maiden campaign with 554 digs.
The Lady Panthers have won six of their past seven matches entering tournament play. Prairie View A&M took both regular-season meetings over UAPB, dropping just one set during those contests.
Scouting the Competition:
- UAPB (10-23, 8-10 SWAC) has three players with 195 kills or better on the season. Haley Gomez leads the team with 214 putaways and is hitting at a team-best .212 percentage. Gomez is also the team's top defender at the point of attack with an impressive 88 blocks (31 solo).
- Freshman Zyaire Garrit has posted a nice debut for the Lady Lions with 200 kills and 37 total blocks, both figures ranking second on the team. Newcomer Kaila Robinson has flashed as a dependable third option for UAPB with 195 kills.
- At setter, Elyssa Kennedy (406 assists, 29 service aces) directs the offense.
