Women's Basketball Set to Open Season in WNIT vs. Oklahoma

11/7/2019 9:24:00 PM

PRAIRIE VIEW – With an early litmus test looming, the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team will begin the road portion of their 2019-20 campaign with a Preseason WNIT match-up versus Oklahoma.

Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. Friday from the Lloyd Noble Center.

The Panthers come into the contest fresh off an 85-55 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville during the season opener. Prairie View A&M is looking to build on a 17-win season in 2018-2019 that culminated in a run to the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament semifinals and an appearance in the WNIT.

As the Lady Panthers are picking up where they left off last year, the new faces from the season will look to build upon promising showings in the team's exhibition win.

Versus the Javelinas, newcomers Tatyana Perez and Diana Rosenthal flashed as early difference-makers for the Panthers, who return five players from the previous season.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2010, second overall. In the teams' lone match-up, Oklahoma prevailed 78-55.

Scouting the Competition:
- Oklahoma enters the 2019-20 season looking to rebound from an 8-22 record in the previous season, marking the first time the team had failed to record double-digit wins since the 1997-98 season. The Sooners, who were picked to finish seventh in the Big 12, have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 18 of the past 20 seasons.

- The Sooners are led by junior guard Ana Llausna, a second-team All-Big 12 selection who received preseason all-conference honors. Llausna averaged 18.3 points and 3.4 rebounds as the top offensive threat for Oklahoma during her sophomore year.
