D'IBERVILLE, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M bowling team (20-4) went 4-0 on the final day of SWAC East Roundup clinching the regular season conference bowling championship title for the second time in three years.

"I could not be more proud of this young team and how they competed this weekend," Head PVAMU Bowling Coach Glenn White said. "Time after time they stepped up to the challenge and fought to win the regular season championship. Not only did they win, but they executed at such high levels to achieve it."

PVAMU finished the weekend with an 11-1 record after picking up four wins on their final day and a total pin count of 27,404 combining both round ups.  They averaged 195.74 per game.  Alabama State finished second with a 19-5 overall conference record, but led all teams with a total pin count of 27,613, averaging 197.23 per game.

Jackson State finished third with a 17-7 record in SWAC play, and rounding out the standings were Southern (13-11), Texas Southern (11-13), Alabama A&M (3-21) and Grambling State (1-23).

The Lady Panthers opened the day with a 1,120-1,096 win over 2018 SWAC regular season champions Alabama State. They followed behind with a strong 1,169-988 victory over Southern.

The team won their third match of the day 988-965 over Jackson State. In the final matchup of the day against Grambling. PVAMU claimed a 1,016-706 victory.
Senior Alexus Burton ended the tournament in the number one spot in individual standings, with an average of 210.04 per game. Freshman Crystal Cline finished third in individual standings with a 208.22 average per game. Cline was also the top freshman finisher.  Freshman Shirley Kennebrew followed with a 194.11 average per game.

"I'm so excited for my senior Alexus being able to reach her goal as the top overall finisher in the conference and for freshman Crystal Cline as the top freshman," White said. "This was a total team effort from throughout the lineup to win, not to exclude performances by Kennebrew, Jada Davis, and Asia Wren. We get to take a well-deserved break and continue to work on our skills as we prepare for Vanderbilt's tournament and the SWAC Championship."

The top six finishers in team standings will move on to Arlington, Texas from March 22-24 for the 2019 SWAC Women's Bowling Tournament Championship at the International Training and Research Center.

Next, the team will compete in the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt starting on Friday, March 15 in Nashville, Tenn.
