ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Prairie View A&M softball team ended the UTA Maverick Tournament 1-3 overall after a win against Wichita State on Sunday at the Alan Saxe Softball Stadium.

Down two runs going into the top half of the third inning the Lady Panthers had a hot inning, posting five runs.

Freshman Diavionne Dewalt opened the frame with a homer to left field to cross the plate first for PVAMU.  Sophomore Brianna Grays reached base on a fielding error, before senior Destinee Williams homered to center field, bringing in two runs to extend the score 3-2 over the Shockers.

A single to center field by senior Laurisa Hernandez put a base runner in place, before junior Cameron Lavergne hit the team's third home run of the inning, pushing the lead 3-2.

Both teams went scoreless in the final four innings, allowing PVAMU to take the 5-2 victory.

Junior Crystal Castillo earned the win allowing only two hits after facing 28 batters.

The Lady Panthers return to action when they travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to face Stephen F. Austin State on Tuesday, Feb. 26, for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
