BOX SCORE HOUSTON – In a late run by the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team, PVAMU fell to Texas Southern 73-67 on Saturday at the HPE Arena.
 
PVAMU went on an early run in the first quarter to take a 4-0 lead. A layup from senior guard Shala Dobbins pushed the team ahead 6-1 with 8:47 remaining in the period. The team then went on a 10-2 run, ending with a layup from junior forward Ke'Asia Williams that extended their lead 16-8. A made three pointer from senior guard Chelsea Tieuel sent PV into the second quarter leading 23-16
 
To begin the second quarter a layup from Tieuel gave the Lady Panthers their first points, extending their lead to 25-16. The teams were tied at 27 before another three pointer by Tieuel gave PVAMU a 30-27 lead.
 
PV went into halftime trailing 33-32. Tieuel led the team with 11 points.
 
A three point shot from junior guard Dominique Newman helped PVAMU regain a 35-33 lead at the 9:03 mark of the third quarter. After trailing by seven points, a jumper from senior guard Sierra Shepard lessened the deficit 42-37. A layup from sophomore forward Jhyrah Cobb then brought the score down to 44-39. PVAMU eventually went into the fourth quarter trailing 52-47 on a made jumper from senior center Artavia Ford in the final minute of the period.
 
Back-to-back three pointers by Dobbins at the 6:40 mark lessened PV's deficit to 59-53 with 6:04 remaining in the fourth quarter. PVAMU went on a 6-0 run, ending at the 3:34 mark on a fast break layup from Dobbins to bring the score down 62-60.
 
Although Shepard hit a three-pointer in the closing minute of play, it wasn't enough as PVAMU fell 73-67.
 
Dobbins led the team with 26 points, five rebounds and four steals. Tieuel followed with 12 points and four rebounds. Ford also contributed with 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
 
The Lady Panthers will continue their three-game road trip at Jackson State on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.
