SPRING, Texas – The taste of Hollywood was in the air with the lights shining at the ballroom of the Houston Cityplace Marriott as the Prairie View A&M Athletic department hosted the 2019 Panther Premiere Student Athletic Banquet Tuesday night.
 
The event unofficially marks the conclusion of the 2018-19 athletic season, which recognizes and honor the success of the PVAMU student-athletes on and off the playing field.

Each athletic program presented its annual team awards during the ceremony. In addition, the athletic department also announced the recipients of several special awards.

The President's Award, is presented to both a senior female and male with the highest gpa.  The recipients were Vannessa Castro of softball and Yaw Sekyere of men's track and field.  Women's track and field athlete Nekiesha Bailey and Gary Blackston were presented the I.T. Hunter Award, that is given to the Outstanding female and male athletes.
 
The softball team was presented the C.A. Thomas Sportsmanship Award, which is given to an athlete/team that presents above and beyond the normal requirements of an individual's position on and off the court/field of play.  The G.E. Higgs Awards were presented to Destinee Williams a member of the softball team and Tyler Gordon a member of the baseball team.  This award is given to the female and male that show's leadership on and off the field of play
