Lady Panthers Softball Splits with TSU in Final Regular Season Contest

HOUSTON - The Prairie View A&M softball team wrapped up its regular season schedule on Friday, taking away a split at Texas Southern in Memorial Park.

The Lady Panthers took a 4-1 victory in the first game, then fell 5-0 in game two in rescheduled makeup games from back in March.

PVAMU, 4 - TSU, 1
The first game was a continuation from the doubleheaders scheduled on March 30, before the lightening and rain delay.  The game was postponed and the Lady Panthers held a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The fourth frame opened on a miscue by the center fielder allowing  Bianca Cruz to reach first base, advancing to second on the throw.  Serena Antone followed with a double to center field scoring Cruz for the first touch across home plate.  Gabrielle Fonseca hit a two-run RBI to center field to take the 3-0 lead.

After a defensive change in the top of the sixth, Cruz singled up the middle to begin the base pad running for the Lady Panthers.  On a sac bunt by Antone Cruz advanced to third.  Fonseca brought Cruz in for her third RBI off of a single up the middle for the 4-0 lead.

TSU posted one run in the bottom of the sixth, but was unable to respond as both teams went scoreless in the seventh and PVAMU sealed game one's win.

Fonseca led the team going 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.  Antone followed going 2-for-2 and one RBI.  . Crystal Castillo (10-3) took the win delivering eight strikeouts and only allowing six hits on 27 batters faced in all seven innings.
