NATCHITOCHES, La. — The Prairie View A&M volleyball team fell in a midweek non-conference match up against Northwestern State in four sets Wednesday afternoon. The final set scores were 17-25, 25-20, 17-25, 26-28.
The teams traded points to begin the match, battling to a 10-10 tie. The Lady Demons put together a quick three-point spurt to go ahead 13-10, but steady play kept the Lady Panthers within reach. However, the Lady Demons closed the frame on a 6-1 run.
The Lady Panthers were much stronger during the second frame, leading the majority of the way before Northwestern State managed to tie it at 19-19, but Prairie View dominated down the stretch, reeling off six of the set's final seven points to tie the match 1-1.
In the third set, PVAMU pulled ahead with an 11-9 lead. However, the Lady Panthers conceded seven unanswered points and were ultimately unable to close the gap.
After trailing during most of the fourth set, the Lady Panthers' offense came alive and allowed them to tie things up at 18, one of six ties over the final stages. However, with the set at 26-26, Northwestern State snapped off two scores to take the match.
Junior middle blocker Victoria Pearson led the team with 15 kills, six digs, five blocks and two assists. Freshman right side hitter Cydni Miller followed with 10 kills, six digs and one block. Senior right side hitter CeTara Carter contributed with six kills, two blocks and one dig. Junior outside hitter Tamaira Armstrong also posted 13 digs to go with six kills and one block.
Next, the Lady Panthers head to the University of Texas at Arlington for tournament action. The weekend tournament will begin on Friday, Sept. 20.
