BOX SCORE HOUSTON — The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team fell 88-65 during a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup against in-state rival Texas Southern Saturday evening at the H&PE Arena.

The Panthers found themselves in an early 8-0 hole, before a jumper from freshman Kennedy Paul got the offense going. Texas Southern reeled off five points in response, but Panther freshman Diana Rosenthal led a quick 6-2 run to bring Prairie View A&M within seven, but despite a late four-point spurt powered by graduate Tatyana Perez and Rosenthal, the Panthers trailed by eight at the end of one.

Prairie View A&M stormed within four following a 6-2 run to open the second quarter, but Texas Southern answered with an 11-4 run and extended their lead to double-digits. Rosenthal buried a three-pointer to halt the Lady Tigers' momentum and spark a 7-0 run that again got the deficit down to four, but Prairie View A&M sputtered before half, facing an 11-point hole at the break.

Both teams started the third quarter trading back-to-back buckets. Though Texas Southern threatened to pull away, Perez kept the Panthers in it, leading the way during an 8-2 run to close the quarter, albeit with Prairie View facing a 64-53 deficit.

Paul led the team on a 6-0 run early in the fourth quarter, bringing the team within reach at 64-59. However, aside from a pair of free throws, the Panthers' offense slowed to a halt, and Texas Southern took advantage with an 11-2 run to push the score to 75-61 with a little over four minutes remaining in regulation. The Panthers were unable to get back on track the rest of the way.

Rosenthal led the team with 15 points, two rebounds and one steal. Paul and Perez both posted 14 points a piece. Newman also contributed with 10 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
