PRAIRIE VIEW - After challenging stretches to open the season, the Prairie View A&M men's and women's tennis programs return to friendly confines for their respective home openers against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men and women.
Double-header action begins at 11 a.m. for the first men's and women's match of the day, and each team will square off again at 3 p.m. Each match will take place at the PVAMU Tennis Courts.
On the men's side, No. 1 player
Xavier Lawrence has been one of the brighter spots for the Panthers men team. The lone senior for PVAMU, Lawrence has picked up a pair of wins for the Prairie View A&M in their most recent outings: a singles win versus Louisiana-Lafayette and a doubles victory versus New Orleans alongside sophomore
Jorge Juarez Caballero. Lawrence has been a bit of a marathon man for the Panthers, with three of his last four matches going three sets.
Also expected to be in action with Lawrence and Caballero are juniors
Rodrigo Yoshikata and
Kevin Ugarteche and freshman
Juan Malham Viada.
For the Lady Panthers, sophomore
Mahogani Green has impressed in recent outings, collecting a singles win versus Louisiana-Lafayette and teaming with freshman
Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo for a doubles victory over Sam Houston State, a contest that also saw sophomore
Claudia Andrea Islas Medina and freshman Salma Sanchez Villabolos earn a doubles win.
Junior
Jessica Lackey and freshman Annette Lira are likely to get the call to round out the Lady Panthers' lineup.

- This match represents the season opener for both the Corpus Christi men's and women's teams.
- Prairie View A&M's men are 0-4 all-time against the Islanders, while the Lady Panthers are 0-5 against the Corpus Christi women's program.
- Yoshikata has found success against the Islanders in the past, earning a singles win and teaming with Ugarteche for a doubles triumph in the teams' Feb. 1, 2018 meeting.
