BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M women's basketball dropped a 61-54 contest to Houston Baptist Tuesday afternoon at the William J. Nicks Building.
How it Happened:
After a tightly-contested first quarter, Prairie View was plagued by cold shooting that allowed the Huskies to put together a 14-3 run that gave them a 26-15 lead with 4:23 left in the half.
Diana Rosenthal then drained a jumper, and
Tierra Tullis helped power a 10-3 Panthers spurt to cut the deficit down to four in the closing moments. A pair of free throws from HBU's Enya Maguire gave the Huskies a 31-25 advantage at the break.
The Panthers cranked up the defensive pressure in the third, with Rosenthal initially leading the charge on the offensive end. Prairie View A&M drew within a basket of the lead on several occasions, but each time HBU answered to keep the Panthers at bay.
The Huskies ultimately extended their lead to seven with a Maguire three-ball to open the fourth, but the Panthers refused to quit, as a 6-2 run punctuated by a slashing lay-up from Rosenthal brought the game to 57-54 with 2:33 left. A pair of Huskies free throws put the deficit back to five, and the Panthers were unable to overtake HBU down the stretch.
Top Performances:
Rosenthal led the Panthers with 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. The Tullis sisters scored seven points each.
Jasmin Dixon scored five points and swatted four shots.
Collins paced the Huskies with 15 points and 10 boards.
