BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW — Senior Ke'Asia Williams' go-ahead basket with 53 ticks left pushed the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team to a thrilling 50-47 win over rival Texas Southern Saturday evening in the Baby Dome.

"If you compare it to the last time we played them, I think we came out a little more focused and with a little more toughness," PVAMU Assistant Coach Sean LeBeauf said. "We ended up pulling away in the second quarter, and did a better job executing. But the adjustments they made at halftime, we struggled with in the second half. They went into a zone, and it slowed us down."

Down 41-39 with 6:17 left, Prairie View A&M freshman Kennedy Paul put the Panthers ahead with a basket, and senior Bernesha Peters buried a three to spark an 8-0 run that gave Prairie View A&M a 47-41 lead with 2:06 remaining.

Texas Southern made a late charge thanks to back-to-back threes by Richelle Velez before Williams' bucket put the Panthers ahead for good. Peters added a free throw late for insurance.

The Panthers' comeback erased a forgettable third quarter where they lost a 29-18 halftime deficit via a 14-3 scoring disadvantage, allowing Texas Southern to tie the game at 32. The Panthers went 1-of-15 during the frame.

Prior to that, it appeared the Panthers would run away from their short-handed adversaries as Prairie View A&M used a dominating second quarter to build its lead. Down 17-15 following a three from Texas Southern's Ataiya Bridges with 8:54 left, the Panthers held the Tigers to one point the rest of the way, closing the half on a 14-1 run.

Paul went 4-of-7 from the field and led the team with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Peters also posted 10 points after going 4-of-5 from the foul line, along with one rebound and one assist. Junior Jhyrah Cobb also contributed with eight points, six rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals.
