BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW — Behind a big night from senior Bernesha Peters, the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team overcame an 11-0 first quarter deficit to take down Alabama A&M 60-53 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play Monday night at the Baby Dome.
Prairie View A&M (12-16, 9-7 SWAC) was forced to play catchup after the Lady Bulldogs began the game with an 11-0 run, but Peters and company were up to the task. The senior guard powered a 10-2 run to bring the Panthers back in striking distance.
Though the Lady Bulldogs (14-13, 10-6 SWAC) went quiet on the floor – PVAMU held Alabama A&M without a made field goal for the final 3:30 of the opening period – a pair of free throws left the Panthers trailing by five entering the second quarter.
Prairie View came out firing in the second quarter as a Tatyana Perez three tied the game. Efforts from Peters and senior Mariah Campbell powered a 9-0 run as the Panthers ultimately dominated the rest of the half, outscoring AAMU 18-3 at one point before taking a 30-22 lead into intermission.
Peters stayed hot in the third quarter – she scored the Panthers' first 10 points of the second half – as Prairie View A&M's lead swelled to 11, but a 7-2 Lady Bulldogs run trimmed the Panthers' lead to six going into the fourth.
Dominique Newman knocked down a corner trey to open the PVAMU lead to nine with 8:35 left, but Alabama A&M made a push as Nigeria Jones converted a three-point play, and Dariauna Lewis made a pair of lay-ups to help bring Alabama A&M within four with 6:06 remaining. After a Lewis jumper brought the Lady Bulldogs within one with 3:01 to go, a three-pointer by Diana Rosenthal and a three-point play from Ke'Asia Williams pushed the Panthers' lead to seven with 1:23 to go. From there, the Panthers held on to the victory.
Peters scored a season-high 21 points two assists and one steal, and Campbell added a season-high 11 points and seven rebounds. Perez netted seven points, and Williams pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Panthers hit the road for their final road games of the regular season as PVAMU takes on Alcorn State Thursday and faces Southern on Saturday.
