PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M women's basketball turns its attention toward Alcorn State and Southern with intentions to keep their slim hopes alive for hosting a first-round game for the 2020 Cricket Wireless Southwestern Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament.

To wrap up the regular season, Prairie View A&M (12-16, 9-7 SWAC) faces Alcorn State (12-16, 8-8 SWAC) Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Davey L. Whitney Complex in Lorman, Miss. The Panthers then close the regular season against defending champion Southern (13-14, 11-5 SWAC) at 3 p.m. at the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge, La.

Most recently, Prairie View A&M rebounded from a setback to Alabama State, outlasting Alabama A&M 60-53.

The Panthers look to avenge early-season defeats to both the Lady Braves and Jaguars.

Panther News and Notes:
- The easiest path to a first-round home game for the Panthers is for them to defeat Alcorn State and Southern along with Alabama A&M losing to Grambling State AND Jackson State. In the event PVAMU wins out, but finishes with an identical conference record to Alabama A&M and/or Southern, other tiebreakers would determine seeding.

- Prairie View A&M senior Dominique Newman recently joined the 1,000-point club during the Panthers' win over Grambling on Feb. 15.

- The Panthers rank second in opponent rebounds allowed, conceding 35.3 per night. PVAMU is also third in blocked shots per game (3.07).

Scouting Alcorn:
- Though the Lady Braves have been up and down as of late, they're on a bit of a hot streak at home, having won their past four games in friendly confines.

- LaRae Rascoe is the go-to scorer for Alcorn, as she leads the team with an 11.1 points-per-game average while accounted for nearly two and a half steals a night. Additionally, Jada Hargrove (9.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.0 APG) and Diamond Hall (6.4 PPG, 5.1 RPG) each average better than two steals a game.

Scouting Southern:
- The Jaguars have been one of the toughest teams to beat at home, as seven of their eight wins at F.G. Clark Activity Center have come by double-digits.

- Brittany Rose leads a balanced scoring attack with a nightly average of 10.1 points per game. Jaden Towner is second on the team in scoring (8.3 PPG) while Alyric Scott is the team's top long-range threat (7.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 40% 3PT).
