Mississippi Valley Tops Panthers in Regular Season Finale on Senior Day

PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M football team had a tough time stopping Mississippi Valley, as they completed the 2021 regular season with a 24-19 Southwestern Athletic Conference loss to the Delta Devils on a blistery and rainy Saturday afternoon in Panther Stadium on senior day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mississippi Valley opened the first frame up grabbing a 14-0 lead.  The Panthers would answer in the second quarter with a two-yard touchdown by Jaden Stewart to cut the lead in half.

Valley advanced their lead by 14 taking a 21-7 advantage into the locker room.  PVAMU struck late in the third quarter to make the score 21-13 after another Stewart two-yard touchdown run.

MVSU scored a final time in the middle of the 4th securing a 24-13 lead over the Panthers.  But Prairie View A&M would not bow down scoring the final points of the game, after marching down the field for eight-plays and 75-yards, knocking 2:28 ticks off the clock to make the final score 24-19.

Stewart finished the game with 49 yards on 15 attempts and three TD's.  He also had three catches for 34 yards.  Jawon Pass was 21-for-36 for 227 yards, while senior Antonio Mullins had eight catches for 96 yards.

Defensively, Drake Cheatum topped the Panthers with 14 tackles (5 solo, 9 assisted), and 1.0 tackle for loss.  Bryce Turner had nine stops and one break up.  While Troy James and Tariq Mulmore had eight tackles apiece.  James also had 1.5 tackles for loss and one QB Hurry.

The Panthers will return to action as the Western Division Champions in the 2021 Cricket SWAC Football Championship Presented by Pepsi Zero Sugar on December 4 for a 3 p.m. kick at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Miss.
