Prairie View's Women's Basketball to Close Out Non-Conference Schedule Thursday

PRAIRIE VIEW – It's been a week and some days since the women's basketball team last played, as the Panthers non-conference schedule will come to a close when they host the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian on Thursday, December 30 for a 2 p.m. tip at the William J. Nicks Building. 

Jarvis Christian enters the contest with a 1-3 record, after missing their last two games due to COVID-19 related issues.  Their last contest was played on December 8th when they picked up the first win of the season against Dallas Christian College (79-46) in Dallas.

Brianna Page leads the Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 17.0 points per game through three games.  Daeja Monroe is averaging 14.5 per contest, while Makaila Cheatem averages 11.7 points.

As a team, Jarvis is shooting 34.8 from the field, scoring 65.3 points per game, while allowing 67.0.  The Bulldogs are shooting .315 from long range and .662 from the free strip line. 

The Panthers will enter Thursday's game with a 2-8 overall record.  PVAMU has had a semi-difficult schedule after facing Nebraska, and Iowa State which were their most complex teams to compete against.

For the season, PV is shooting .321 from the field, .303 from 3-point range and .643 from the free-three line.  Diana Rosenthal (121) and Gerlyn Smith (108) have both pushed past the century mark in scoring this season and are both averaging double-figures through the first 10 games.  Smith also leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 per game and Rosenthal with 4.4.
