Lady Panthers head east for pair of SWAC tilts, host Tarleton State and Southern

PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M volleyball team (4-0, 3-0) is gearing up for a trio of contests to begin the week, as the Lady Panthers head to Mississippi for a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference matches at Jackson State (February 21, 6:30 p.m.) and Mississippi Valley State (February 22, 6 p.m.). Afterward, PVAMU hosts Tarleton State February 24 at 6:30 p.m. and host Southern for the Dig Pink Game on February 25 at 1 p.m.

Per health and safety regulations, no fans will be allowed to attend the PVAMU/MVSU match, and attendance will be limited for the Lady Panthers' matches versus Jackson State, Tarleton State and Southern.

PVAMU News and Notes:
- PVAMU has won 10 of its past 11 regular-season games dating back to the 2019 campaign. Additionally, the Lady Panthers are 4-1 in their past five matches versus the Jaguars, with the last two victories coming via sweep.

- Victoria Pearson leads the Lady Panthers with 34 kills, with freshman Malia Viernes (33) and senior Tamaira Armstrong (27) are close behind. Jakarta Hope has dished out 17 assists or more in three of the Lady Panthers' first four matches and is also averaging better than nine digs per match.
- Last time out, the Lady Panthers swept Alcorn State to improve to 4-0 on the season. They've won seven straight sets by a near five-point average margin.

- Sunday's match versus Jackson State represents the first piece of in-game action for PVAMU this month.

Scouting Jackson State:
- Sitting 2-0 (2-0 SWAC) on the season, Jackson State's top attacker to watch is 2019 SWAC Player of the Year Jylen Whitten, a legitimate two-way threat that has posted 22 total kills on the season and 28 digs on the season. Alexis Williams ties Whitten for the team lead in kills. Damassy Thompson and Dekyra Dennis have combined for 58 assists on the season, and Maria Bianchi Brito and Camry Dabney anchor the defense up front. On the backend, Alana Washington leads with 29 digs.

Scouting Mississippi Valley State:
- Chardea Berthelot leads the Devilettes' offensive attack with nine total kills through two matches. At setter, Ariana Austin is the leading playmaker with a team-best 26 assists on the season. Tylia Dixon leads the defensive effort with 15 digs.

Scouting Tarleton State:
- At 5-7 on the season, Tarleton State has won four of its last five matches and fields an impressive offensive attack led by Amber Strange (153 kills, 28 blocks) and Lauren Kersey (130 kills, 27 blocks). The Texans have six players with 40 or more kills on the season. Kayla Brannon directs the offense with 338 assists and 90 digs, and Melina Maldonado is a proven secondary playmaker with 133 assists this season. Ana Costas fortifies the backline with 219 digs, and Lorin McNeil is the top frontline defender with 41 total blocks.

Scouting the Lady Jaguars:
- Junior Jada Carter leads the Jaguars with 35 kills, but Southern has one of the deeper offensive attacks in the league with eight players that have posted double-digit kill marks to this point in the season.Libero Kennedy Joubert has impressed on the Southern backline in her freshman campaign, averaging 4.6 digs per set. Princess Stark sets the table for the Jaguars' offense, averaging 6.0 assists per set while ranking second on the team with 46 total digs.
