BOX SCORE HOUSTON – Behind a dominant effort from Victoria Pearson, the Prairie View A&M volleyball team (8-2, 7-1 SWAC) took down Texas Southern (0-4, 0-4) in four sets during Southwestern Athletic Conference action Monday evening at the H&PE Arena. Set scores were 25-14, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22.
How it Happened:
Pearson delivered four straight aces on serve to help the Lady Panthers begin the first set on a 10-2 run. The early push held strong the rest of the frame as Pearson ended up with five aces in the set. After kills from Malia Viernes and Melanie Arenas pushed the Panthers' lead to double-digits, a pair of TSU miscues ensured a 1-0 lead for Prairie View A&M.
The second set was almost as one-sided, as Pearson dealt a pair of aces as the Panthers scored the first eight points of the period. Later, Pearson got involved in the attack phase, putting away three kills that helped the Panthers build their lead to 11. After cruising through the second set, the Panthers were nipped late as the Tigers managed to steal set three.
Prairie View A&M regrouped in set four, with Viernes and Tamaira Armstrong providing the early offense. A pair of late kills from Arenas helped seal the match, resulting in the Panthers' first win in Houston since 2017.
