BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team (3-13, 2-11 SWAC) fell to Alcorn State 57-53 in its regular-season finale Saturday afternoon in the Baby Dome.
How it Happened:
Forced into catch-up mode early on after a low-scoring first quarter, the Panthers were off the mark as Alcorn used an 8-2 run in the second quarter to go ahead 22-13. The Panthers responded with a similar spurt to pull closer, and
Kennedi Heard knocked down a jumper from the elbow with seconds left in the half to bring the Panthers within two at the break.
However, the Panthers' offense was cold to begin the third, and Alcorn used the three ball to power a 14-4 run that resulted in a 40-28 advantage. Heard sparked a comeback attempt for the Panthers, outscoring the Lady Braves 8-2 from that point to put PVAMU within six as the fourth quarter began.
Following a three-pointer from Alcorn to make it 47-39 with 6:38 left, Heard led a 7-2 run that brought the Panthers within three with 2:37 left in the game. However, the Lady Braves would seal it from the free throw line, keeping the Panthers at bay for good.
Key Stats:
Heard led with 23 points, six rebounds and four steals. Paul posted 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Tiffany Tullis scored eight points with a team-high 12 rebounds.
Kirdis Clark led Alcorn with 18 points.
