BOX SCORE DALLAS, Texas – Intensity and poise were key for the Prairie View A&M (3-1, SWAC 2-0) sidelines Saturday afternoon, and the team seemed quite aware of exactly how much this game against the Tigers (1-3, SWAC 0-1) in Dallas meant for their season and for the State Fair Classic rivalry in the 24-10 win over Grambling.
The point of it all was to make sure that the State Fair Classic trophy was kept in Texas as well as keeping their eye on the 2021 championship.
"I think we played well, but I think there were some things that we could have done better," said head PVAMU football coach
Eric Dooley. "We have been able to play some games, but this is the first time to put two back-to-back winning games together and this is important to conference play.
How it Happened:
Following a quick strike by quarterback
Jawon Pass for a 16 yard touchdown to
Donovan White, the Panthers appeared poised to take control of the game. Following an interception by
Logan Jackson led the Panthers to a 26 yard field goal by
Luis Reyes to take a 10-0 early lead.
Grambling managed to close out the first half with their first touchdown of the game going into the locker room down by three (10-7).
With a three and out to open the third quarter, the Panthers struck quickly with an 18 yard run by Jaden Steward for a touchdown that pushed the Panthers lead to 17-7. Late in the quarter, Grambling placed its final points of the game on the board with a 29 yard field goal.
The Panthers struck again to open the fourth quarter marching down the field 75 yards to seal the game with 24-10 win as PV's defense held steady to keep the Tigers off the board for Prairie View A&M's fourth-straight State Fair Classic victory.
