HOUSTON – The season opener is finally here as the fans have something to cheer about as football is back in action. Although the Panthers had an opportunity to play three games in spring semester, there were quite a few setbacks and football just was not the same. The Prairie View A&M Panthers face their first road game test.
This is no ordinary game it's the rival game that everyone anticipates every season as the Panthers visit the BBVA Stadium to take on the Texas Southern Tigers on Saturday, September 4 for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
Game Notes: This will be the 77
th meeting between the two teams, but the 36
th in the Annual Labor Day Classic. The Tigers lead the series 44-31-1, but the Panthers have won the last six out of seven meetings. The Panther football team defeated Texas Southern in the spring by the margin of 20-19. Following a defensive stand, the Panthers mounted a charge with Connley making plays with his arm and legs. However, the drive nearly stalled in the red zone before Connley found
Chris Johnson on a 4th and 18 to convert. Kristian Mosely scored from four yards out on the next play to put the Panthers ahead with 1:40 to go.From there, the defense stood tall as
Desmond Obi forced the game-winning fumble that was scooped by
Storey Jackson.
Scouting TSU:
The Tigers will be looking for their first win as they have not won a game since October 27, 2018 with a 42-14 win over Mississippi Valley at the BBVA Stadium.
