PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M University fell to Huston-Tillotson Wednesday evening, 3-1. PVAMU lost by the scores of 19-25, 20-25, 25-18, and 22-25.
"We weren't able to execute and capitalize with our serves or with receiving," said head volleyball coach
TaCho Tyler. "We will need a better team performance all the way around if we are going to win."
How it Happened:
The first set opened with the Lady Panthers owning a three-point lead at 5-2. Using an 8-2 run, the Lady Rams was able to hold off PVAMU for a 25-20 win to take the opening set.
PVAMU fell behind quickly in the second set as the Lady Rams built a quick 7-4 lead. Prairie View rallied back to tie the set 16-16 Huston-Tillotson would not look back as it took the second set 25-20.
Set three was a seesaw contest in which neither team wanted to relinquish their lead until a 10-10 tie that saw the Lady Panthers to force a fourth set with a 25-18 win.
The final set had a very similar start as set three, but this time the Lady Rams took advantage of the Lady Panthers miscues taking a 5-2 run at 13-8. From that point Huston-Tillotson never looking back taking the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Post-Game Notes:
- Junior Kimira Coffee had a team and career high of 13 kills, three aces, four digs and one block
- Kiersten Atkinson had a career high of 10 kills
- Mia Goffney had a career high of nine kills, one ace, one block
- Freshman Amina Attra posted a season and career high of 22 assist, while junior Jakarta Hope dished out a season high of 20 assists.
Prairie View A&M will face another Southland Conference foe as they travel to McNeese State, September 14
th in Lake Charles, La for a 6:30 p.m. first serve.
