PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M women's tennis team clinched a 4-3 non-conference victory Sunday over Southland Conference school Nicholls State at the PVAMU Tennis Complex.
 
The Lady Panthers made quick work of the doubles point, getting a win of 6-3, at No. 1, and 6-1 at the No 2 spot to sweep play and grab a 1-0 lead.  That point would prove to be the difference when the two teams split the six singles points.
 
Anette Lira claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicholls State at the No. 6 singles position to make it a 2-0 lead for the home team.  The match evened out with the Colonels winning at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spot.  Salma Villalobos defeated Nicholls Noemie Piquest at the single No. 5 spot earning a 6-3, 6-4 victory making the score 3-2. 
 
Again, a final tie by Nicholls State's Carla Bouygues came with a 6-7, 6-4 decision at No. 2 over Aleyla Wooten.  Needing one more point to clinch the win, Victoria Castillo earned a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the No. 1 position for the deciding mark.
 
Prairie View A&M will play a dual match at Lamar on Wednesday in Beaumont, Texas beginning at 9 a.m. at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center.
