PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M tennis teams honored five seniors four from the women's team and one from the men's team on the final day of the home portion of their schedule on Thursday. The Lady Panthers defeated Southern 4-0 going 4-5 against conference opponents entering the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament.
In the pre-match ceremony, PVAMU honored seniors Ruju Chauhun,
Victoria Castillo,
Salma Villalobos, and
Anette Lira from the women's team. Juan Malham Viada was the solo senior from the men's team that was also honored.
The women's match opened with doubles play with the Lady Panthers sweeping the doubles point. The team of Castillo and
Mahogani Green (PVAMU) defeated Kai Wince and Paris Washington (SU) in the #1 position 6-2. PVAMU then went on to win the #3 doubles spot with the team of Chauhan and
Cierra Garcia (PVAMU) defeating Olivia Jenkins and Trinity Turner (SU), 6-4.
Aleyla Wooten and Villalobos picked up the #3 position win defeating Agyeponmaa Mintah and Takalani Molaoa by the score of 6-5.
Prairie View A&M's Castillo won the first point in singles at the No. 1 position by defeating Molaoa 6-0, 6-3. She was followed by Lira at the No. 6 position taking a 6-2, 6-1 win over Turner. The final point that the Lady Panthers needed was at the No. 4 position with Green taking a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Mintah to take the 4-0 win.
PVAMU will conclude the regular season when they face the Rice University Owls on Sunday, April 16 for a noon first serve at the George R. Brown Tennis Court in Houston, Texas.
