PRAIRE VIEW, Texas --Sophomore Aerin Talley and senior Taliya Talley each racked up three hits, but the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers fell to the Texas Southern Lady Tigers 8-5 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Hailey Elizarraras (5-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (26-18, 22-2). Junior Breanna Reyna was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out two.
In addition to her three hits, sophomore Aerin Talley had a home run and two RBI to lead the Lady Panthers. Senior Taliya Talley added an RBI to her three-hit performance as well. Sophomore Rayna Lewis also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Panthers were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Sophomore Aerin Talley put Prairie View A&M on the board with a leadoff home run-off junior L. Bell.
The Lady Panther's deficit expanded to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, taking over the lead in the third inning. which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Lady Panthers.
Prairie View A&M's lead had disappeared once the seventh inning arrived and turned into an 8-4 Texas Southern advantage when the Lady Panthers cut that deficit to 8-5. The Lady Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Aerin Talley. The Lady Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
