Volleyball will be heading to Huntsville, TX to being their season at the Sam Houston State Tournament. They will face 3 teams over two days, August 30 and 31. Their game schedule for the tournament is as follows:
August 30 - VS Sam Houston at 9:30am
August 30 - VS SFA at 3:30am
August 31 - VS UIW at 12:30pm
For the 2024 season, the team is bringing on four new players, with several returning from the previous season. Key players, such as
Janyah Henderson,
Kylee Owens, and
Leah Lawson, who were named on the All-SWAC First Team for the 2024 Preseason Honors, are set to return this season. In 2023, Henderson (3.73) led the SWAC in hitting percentage and was in the top 10 in blocks (.76) and digs (3.11). Owens led the SWAC in points (465), and was among the top 10 in digs (2.94), hitting percentage (2.61), kills (3.41), and service aces (.44). Lawson was the leader in assists (8.94) in the 2023 season.
When asked about the vibe of the team and the players getting along, Lindsay stated that "The players are jelling really well. They looking like they've been together for a long time. There's a lot of hustle nad a lot of comfortability already in a short time. Our defense has picked up tremendously and they're playing extremely scrappy right now."
Overall PVAMU Volleyball was among the top 5 in the SWAC in almost all volleyball statistics. Head coach
Cheri Lindsay and
Darcie Kaiser are both returning this season, looking forward to leading Lady Panthers to a successful season.
The head coach also mentioned that she is very excited going into the game. "They've been working really hard and I'm excited to watch them play against somebody else. The key to being successful this weekend is ball control and defense."
