CORPUS CHRISTI, TX --The Prairie View A&M volleyball team won the first set, but couldn't hang on and fell in four sets (25-23, 12-25, 31-33, 21-25) to the Sam Houston Bearkats Saturday at Dugan Wellness Center.

The non-conference loss moved Prairie View A&M to 2-7 on the season.

The Lady Panthers were led by a double-double from Kylee Owens, who registered 18 kills and 12 digs on the day. Iyonna Sherwood also added 12 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Ariana Spell chipped in for with 18 digs to go with seven blocks from Adlene Jideofor.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Panthers opened up an early one set to none lead, winning a close first set 25-23. Prairie View A&M grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Lady Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza. Prairie View A&M also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Sam Houston attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Prairie View A&M then lost set two 25-12, evening things at a set each. The Lady Panthers fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.

SET 3 | A third-set loss put Prairie View A&M behind 2-1. The Lady Panthers rallied from an eight-point hole at 17-9, but Sam Houston held on to win the set 33-31.

SET 4 | Prairie View A&M lost set four and the match, falling 25-21. The Lady Panthers couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
