PINE BLUFF, AR --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team held UAPB to just 19 percent from 3-point range in a 4-for-21 shooting performance, but fell 81-56 to the Golden Lions on the road Saturday.
The Lady Panthers (2-24, 0-15) had three players score in double figures, led by Crystal Schultz, who had 20 points and two steals. Cj Wilson tacked on 11 points and seven rebounds and Alana Shields helped out with 10 points from the bench.
The Prairie View A&M offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 24 attempts. Schultz was the most prolific shooter for the Lady Panthers, draining four treys in the contest.
Prairie View A&M forced 13 UAPB turnovers. The Lady Panthers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Schultz's two steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
After playing to a 2-2 tie early in the game, Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run with 8:28 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Shields, to take a 7-2 lead. The Lady Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 22-13.
The Lady Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 45-26 halftime deficit.
Prairie View A&M started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 60-44 by the end of the third quarter. Prairie View A&M took advantage of four UAPB turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.
UAPB kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 72-50 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Schultz's three, to shrink the deficit to 72-56 with 3:55 to go in the contest. UAPB responded and outscored the Lady Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 81-56. Prairie View A&M took advantage of six UAPB turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
