PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Morgan Smith racked up four RBIs to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Grambling Tigers 19-1 on Friday.
Kayla Adams (9-4) got the win for Prairie View A&M (29-21, 22-3). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Caden Young also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one and striking out one.
Smith went 2-for-3 with a double in addition to her four RBIs for the Panthers. Mia Nunez furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with a home run, a walk and three RBIs. Lainey Neiderhofer also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a triple, a walk and two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up 10 runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Smith.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Panthers built on their lead in the third inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Kirstyn Jones and a two-run home run from Nunez, which brought the score to 17-1 in favor of the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M kept Grambling without a run before expanding their lead to 19-1 the following inning. The Panthers notched a couple on a two-run triple from Neiderhofer. The score remained 19-1 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.
