David Dovey will be enter his first full year as an athletic trainer for Prairie View A&M. He officially joined the staff in December of 2017.
Dovey works primarily with the women’s basketball team, men’ and women’s tennis and is secondary to football. Before assuming his current role, he was the athletic trainer for West High School (2016-17); University of Pikeville (2015); and Kansas Wesleyan University (2013-15). At the two small Universities he was in charge of the athletic training room, football, women’s basketball and women’s softball.
Prior to joining Kansas Wesleyan, Dovey was the head athletic trainer at Virginia University of Lynchburg (2012-13). While at Virginia U he created a high functioning, interactive environment for converting a poorly equipped training room into a well-serviced, professional, and friendly athletic training center for the athletes.
Dovey also doubled as an interim athletic trainer for the Colorado Ice Indoor Football team. He conducted initial assessments of athlete’s injury and illnesses, evaluated athlete’s readiness to play, provided participation clearances when warranted and applied protective or injury preventive devices such as taping, bandaging or providing braces.
He first began his career as a head athletic trainer for Thornton High School (2007-2012), were he covered 17 different varsity sports as well as male and female non-varsity sports.
Dovey is a member of the NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association).
He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts-Human Performance and Sports, with a concentration in Athletic Training from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2007. He went on to obtain his Master’s of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2010.
