Prairie View A&M University Athletics

Iyonna Sherwood, a freshman middle/right-side hitter from San Antonio, Texas, is majoring in Business at Prairie View A&M. She previously attended Douglas MacArthur High School. Iyonna was inspired to play volleyball by her 7th grade teacher and coach, Coach Murphy.

Her favorite all-time movie is Are We There Yet?, and Michael Jackson is her favorite entertainer. Iyonna enjoys a well-crafted burger and loves the Christmas holiday for its joyful atmosphere. Her hobbies include watching new shows and reading.

The mental toughness required in volleyball drives Iyonna’s passion for the sport. She believes one of the greatest challenges for athletes today is managing the limited time available in a day.

One of her most memorable moments in sports was winning a bid to nationals during her 17’s club year. This achievement marked a significant milestone in her volleyball journey.

In five years, Iyonna hopes to find a fulfilling job with an established company. Her dream job is to become a travel nurse. She chose Prairie View A&M for its supportive environment and the opportunity to be surrounded by people who truly understand her.
