Prairie View A&M University Athletics

Chenai Chawayipira, known by her nickname Shay Shay, is a freshman at Prairie View A&M University, majoring in Nursing and Kinesiology. She is from San Antonio and graduated from Brennan High School. On the softball field, she plays outfield and wears jersey number 29.

Softball has taught Chenai the importance of having a short-term memory, allowing her to quickly move past mistakes and stay focused. Her favorite movie is After Earth, and she enjoys the humor of Kevin Hart. Chenai loves steak and Chipotle, and Christmas is her favorite holiday because of the way it brings families together and the joy of Christmas songs.

One of her most memorable moments in softball came during a high school game when, with the score tied 2-2, two outs, and two runners on base, Chenai hit a home run, sending her teammates and the crowd into a frenzy. In five years, she hopes to have earned her bachelor’s degree and possibly her master's. Her dream job is to become an Ultrasound Tech. Chenai chose Prairie View A&M after visiting the campus and appreciating its beauty, as well as the opportunity to be around people who share similar backgrounds.
