Joseph Lane

Lane joined the PVAMU Lady Panthers softball staff in 2011 and served as a volunteer assistant. His primary responsibilities included assisting with player fundamental preparation, practice management, recruiting, game operations and working directly with hitters, catchers and defensive strategy. 

He was promoted to Assistant Coach the following season working directly with then newly appointed Head Coach Vernon L. Bland. 

Now in his 13th season Lane has been an intricate part of the Lady Panthers softball team.  Along with Bland he has coached three SWAC Championship team in the last five seasons and received an Western Division Title. 

After injuries shortened his playing career, Coach Lane Co-Founded Full Potential Sports Training Academy which has been paramount in the holistic development of student athletes around the Greater Houston and surrounding areas.  Many athletes within the Full Potential Sports Training Academy have gone on to enjoy successful careers at the Junior College, Division-I and professional levels.  He is well versed in strength & conditioning, speed & agility, and position specific trainings.  He is a member of the Amateur Coaching Association and has served as a camp clinician for many years. 

Under Lane’s tutelage, sixteen Lady Panthers have been named to the All- SWAC teams including the 2012 SWAC Freshman of the Year (Shontel Lopez)  & the 2016 SWAC Co-Freshman of the Year (Shelby Williams)  His outfield corps have maintained a six year fielding percentage average of .982 and is consistently recognized as one of the most defensive outfield units in the conference. 

In 2017, after taking over the hitting responsibility for the team and introducing the power element, the Lady Panthers tied their career homerun record originally set in 2013.  Utilizing advanced offensive and defensive strategies for the 2017 season, which the Lady Panthers reached a 20 win mark for the first time since 2013 en route to Head Coach Vernon L. Bland being named Coach of the Year for the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Lady Panthers led the All SWAC selections with six total while posting the #2 Offense and #2 Defense in the conference.

A native of Houston, Texas, Coach Lane graduated from Prairie View A&M in 1998 with a degree in Business Management.  He and his wife, Tennille, share three active future Panthers, Jaxon, Jordyn, and Jacyn.
